Welcome, May!

Resilience. This word comes to mind as we look around our community and become strengthened by each sign of hope, encouragement, and act of support we see. We’re sharing ways for you to keep in touch with family and friends, recognize the people you’re proud of, and find ways to smile.

Keep in touch. Have you tried Zoom yet? You can connect up to 100 people at once via free Zoom video calls. Add more fun into the mix with Houseparty, which features games like Heads Up! And Trivia to entertain your group. Marco Polo is another great app. It allows you to send personal videos on your own time without being live. Plus, photos and videos won’t disappear!

Recognize. Teacher Appreciation Week is May 4-8, thank teachers by supporting their needs through AdoptaClassroom.org! Celebrate Mother’s Day on May 10 by creating a heartfelt video for your mom with Animoto. Share extra love with a nurse or EMS practitioner this year during Nurses Week, May 6-12 and EMS Week, May 17-23. Thank them with an e-card or call, or send them food or a gift! Last but not least, congratulate your favorite graduates with a custom Etsy gift or virtual gift card.

Don’t forget to smile. Here are some awesome ways to boost your mood. 1) Spend more time outdoors! Exposure to sunlight releases serotonin. 2) Eat healthy. Increase folate intake with spinach, avocado, and strawberries, and eat more whole grains to encourage brain health. 3) Play with your pet! Pets reduce stress and loneliness. 4) Exercise. Get moving to reduce stress hormones and produce endorphins!

Make your move. Did you know that May is National Moving Month? It’s no wonder. Mid to late spring is the best time to list your home for sale.
